There’s something about Chicago at night in the winter that just hits differently — the glow of the city, the reflections on the river, and that crisp, cozy feeling that makes everything feel a little more cinematic. This mini session took place right before Christmas, and it was the perfect way to document a trip that meant a lot.

This couple (the cutest married duo) wanted updated photos together — not overly posed, not overly serious — just modern, natural portraits that felt like them, with the city as the backdrop. They don’t live in Chicago, so this session was also about remembering this season: a winter trip, a little holiday magic, and time together in one of their favorite cities.

A Winter Night Along the Chicago River

We started near the Chicago Riverwalk, where the lights and reflections create the most beautiful texture in photos. Night sessions can feel intimidating, but they’re actually some of my favorites because the city does so much of the work — it’s romantic without trying too hard.

I keep direction simple and relaxed, and we move through the session in a way that feels natural: walking, pausing, leaning in, laughing, warming up hands, taking a breath. The result always feels polished, but still honest.

The Wrigley Building at Night

Next we made our way toward the Wrigley Building, which is one of my go-to Chicago landmarks for portraits. It’s classic, bright, and timeless — and it photographs beautifully at night, especially in winter when the city feels extra festive.

This part of the session felt very “Chicago”: elegant architecture, soft movement, and that little buzz in the air that makes the photos feel alive.

Ending at the Chicago Theatre

We wrapped near the Chicago Theatre, which is always such a fun final stop. It brings a bit more energy and that iconic downtown feeling — perfect for couples who want their photos to feel like a memory of the city, not just a location.

There’s something really special about ending a session here: it’s bold, unmistakably Chicago, and adds a touch of editorial edge while still feeling warm and romantic.

Mini Sessions for Couples Visiting Chicago

If you’re visiting Chicago and want a way to remember the trip — without a long session or anything complicated — a mini session downtown is such a great option. It’s perfect for couples who want updated photos, a quick anniversary-style session, or simply something meaningful to take home from your time here.

These sessions are guided, relaxed, and intentionally planned around locations that photograph beautifully (even in winter).

If you’re planning a trip and want photos that feel modern, natural, and timeless — I’d love to work together.
